About Higher or Lower

Higher or Lower is a Pokémon base-stat showdown. Two Pokémon, side by side, pick the one with the higher Base Stat Total. Ten rounds, two mistakes allowed.

BST is the sum of HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense, and Speed. It's a rough measure of overall power, but the surprises are half the fun (you'll learn quickly which 'weak-looking' Pokémon are actually tanks).

Rules & scoring

Each round shows two Pokémon. Tap the one you think has the higher BST. Ties are extremely rare and count as either answer.

Ten rounds per run, two wrong picks allowed before the run ends. Finish all ten to extend the streak and land on the leaderboard for the day.

Strategy tips

Pseudo-legendaries almost always win their matchup. Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, Garchomp, Hydreigon, Goodra, Kommo-o, Dragapult, and Baxcalibur all sit at 600 BST, so if one appears against a non-legendary it wins by default.

Final evolutions beat middle stages, and middle stages beat basics, ~90% of the time. When both sides are the same stage, favour the one with a mega, primal, or gigantamax form: those Pokémon were designed to be strong.

Legendaries and mythicals cluster at 600-720 BST but there are traps. Cosmog (200), Type: Null (534), and Regigigas (670) all break the pattern. Learn the outliers and you'll clear 10/10.

Frequently asked questions

What is Base Stat Total (BST)?
BST is the sum of a Pokémon's six base stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Higher BST usually, but not always, means a stronger Pokémon.
Are mega evolutions and form changes included?
No, we use base-form stats only, so the showdowns stay consistent and learnable.
Do legendaries appear?
Yes, but they're balanced against other high-BST Pokémon so it's not always an obvious pick.
What happens on a tie?
Two Pokémon with identical BST is rare but possible. When it happens, both answers count as correct.
Is BST the same as competitive tier?
No. Competitive tiers factor in movepools, abilities, and typing. BST is a raw stat total, which is why it makes for a fair, apples-to-apples daily puzzle.
