Pokémon Guides & Reference
Free, detailed reference pages for every kind of Pokémon player. The same data that powers our daily games, written out in full so you can study it, bookmark it, and settle arguments with it.
What is in the library
There are eight guides here and they fall into three groups. The battling group covers the full 18-type effectiveness chart and every gym leader and Elite Four roster from Kanto to Paldea, which between them answer most of the questions that come up in an actual playthrough. The collecting group covers all nine generations, the starter trios, the legendary and mythical split, and shiny hunting odds. The last group is the odd one out: a guide to reading Pokémon fusion sprites, and a plain-language introduction to how fan games get made.
Every page is written to be read on its own rather than skimmed for a single number, though the numbers are all there in tables if that is what you came for. Where a guide overlaps with one of our games, it says so and links across, because knowing the type chart is genuinely the difference between guessing and solving in half of them.
Where to start
If you are here to get better at battling, read the type chart first and nothing else. It is the single highest-value page on the site and everything else assumes it. If you are here to collect, start with generations to get the timeline straight, then shinies for the odds and the methods. If you are here because a gym is beating you, go straight to the gym leader rosters and check the second type on the ace, which is usually where the fight is actually decided.
These guides get updated when the games change or when someone emails to say a table is wrong, which happens more often than we would like and is always welcome.
