About Guess that Pokémon

Guess That Pokémon is a free daily Pokémon Wordle. You see a zoomed-in slice of an official Pokémon artwork and have six tries to name it, the image zooms out a little after every wrong guess, so the longer you take, the more obvious it gets.

All 1,025 Pokémon from Generations 1 through 9 are in the pool. A new puzzle drops every day at midnight in your local timezone, and the same image is shared by every player, perfect for daily group chats and streak runs.

Rules & scoring

You get six guesses. Each wrong answer zooms the image out one step, revealing more of the Pokémon's silhouette, colours, and body shape.

Guesses are checked against the full National Dex spelling; the input has autocomplete so you won't lose a guess to a typo. A correct guess before your sixth attempt banks the win and extends your streak; running out of tries breaks it.

Strategy tips

Colour and texture are the first real clue. A single flat colour usually means an early-gen Pokémon; complex gradients, metallic sheen, or fur patterns almost always point at Gen 5 or later. Note the palette before you commit.

Look at what the crop is NOT showing you. If you can only see a smooth curve with no visible limbs, you're probably looking at a snake, fish, or blob Pokémon, entire evolutionary families you can rule out at once.

Save your last two guesses for confirmation, not exploration. Once the third zoom reveals a body shape, pick the family (Fire starter final form, pseudo-legendary, Rotom appliance) and lock in the specific member on guess five.

Frequently asked questions

How is Guess That Pokémon different from regular Wordle?
Instead of guessing a 5-letter word, you identify a Pokémon from a zoomed-in image that gradually zooms out. You still get 6 attempts, and the puzzle is the same for everyone that day.
Which Pokémon can appear in the daily puzzle?
Every Pokémon from Generations 1–9 (Bulbasaur through the Scarlet/Violet roster), 1,025 in total. Both starters and obscure mons are fair game.
Can I play more than once a day?
The daily puzzle is one per day so everyone shares the same challenge. Switch to Unlimited mode for endless random rounds.
Does spelling need to be exact?
The input has autocomplete and a small typo tolerance, so a one-letter slip on a longer name still counts. Regional and form variants use their official English names.
Do the puzzles get harder as the year goes on?
No, difficulty is randomized across the full 1,025-strong pool. Some days you'll get a starter, other days a Bug from Unova nobody remembers.
