How to read a Pokémon silhouette
Outline before colour. On the tightest crop you are usually looking at a patch of flat shading, and the only real information is the edge: a wing tip, a fin, the curl of a tail. Palettes repeat constantly across the dex, shapes repeat far less.
Count the limbs and find the joint. Quadrupeds, bipeds, and floating blobs each have a distinct edge rhythm, and one visible knee or elbow rules out entire families at once.
Watch the empty space. Crops are taken from the centre, so a large blank area on one side usually means the Pokémon is tall and narrow rather than round.
When you are stuck on guess three, spend a turn on a generation you have not tried. You lose an attempt but gain a wider picture, and that trade almost always pays.
